Students determine what President Houston and/or President Lamar will do in certain situations based on their knowledge of that president's policies in the following areas:

  • Issue 1: Relations with American Indians (e.g., Chief Bowles, the Córdova Rebellion, the Council House Fight)
  • Issue 2: The Economy & National Debt (e.g., spending, printing money)
  • Issue 3: The Military (e.g., the Texas Navy, the Texas Rangers)
  • Issue 4: Land & Expansion (e.g., the Santa Fe Expedition, location of the capital)
  • Issue 5: Annexation to the United States

 

Uses critical thinking to apply what they have learned about the two presidents. 

 

Includes Teacher Information, Students Handouts to fill in for one of the presidents and another one for both presidents for flexibility, answer keys. 

 

Can be used for presentations or debates or just an assignment to turn in.

  • Content TEKS (c)(4)(A): Identifying individuals, events, and issues during the administrations of Houston and Lamar.
  • Skills TEKS (c)(20)(B): Analyzing information by comparing and contrasting.
